music director adThe First Congregational Church of Walpole, UCC has a membership list of around 200 and an average weekly attendance of 75-100. The music program currently includes a regular adult vocal choir and a hand bell choir. There are also occasional choirs of just men, women or children. The church is blessed with talented vocal and instrumental soloists and small groups. The congregation appreciates and supports the music program.

Our pipe organ is custom built and the pipes and console are locate in the balcony. It has 11 ranks, which, with unification and duplexing, expands to 31 stops. The piano is a Yamaha baby grand in excellent condition. Our 4 octave hand bell set has recently been refurbished by the manufacturer, Malmark. All instruments are faithfully maintained.

The Music Library is extensive, boasting large collections of choral anthems and cantatas, hand bell pieces, and organ music. It is well organized and kept in a room dedicated to the music program. The choir has robes and stoles in adult and children's sizes.

The church prefers a music director with a degree of BA or higher in music, with training and experience in sacred and choral music of traditional and contemporary styles. However, the search committee places high value on experience and self study as well. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

The ideal candidate for Music Director at the First Congregational Church of Walpole will be accomplished in the following skills:

  • playing the organ and piano
  • directing choirs
  • accompanying vocal and instrumental soloists and small groups
  • planning appropriate service music
  • communicating with church leaders
  • recruiting members for musical groups
  • inspiring adults, youth, and children to participate in music
  • continuing and expanding a comprehensive music program
